Welcome
to our September 2012 newsletter.
Our aim is to
be able to update you on anything you have missed
over the last month or and also to inform you of any future events.
- 9 members attended including 1 visitor and there were 4 apologies.
- Erica welcomed members and our visitor and congratulated Emma on her wedding and the forthcoming birth of her baby boy. Thank you to all who donated to Emma's baby shower she had some lovely little gifts to go home with.
- The meeting last week was an opportunity to discuss next year’s program. Thanks to Alex who organised our food for the evening of pizza, garlic bread and desert. I know we all enjoyed it as there wasn't a lot of food left at the end of the evening.
- A board was displayed in the meeting on which there were attached some post-it notes with ideas for events, speakers etc for our 2013 program. Members were asked to each complete a post-it note with their idea(s) of what they would like the committee to organise in 2013 and there were some great ones on the board at the end of the evening. At the next committee meeting we shall consider all of them and plan our program for next year.
- There is an invitation to attend a 'Recruitment and Retention' meeting being held by the Glamorgan Federation at the Morganstown Village Hall near Radyr on the 24th October. If anyone is interested in going please contact either myself or Erica for further information.
- There are 2 WI choirs currently looking for new members. One is in Cardiff and the other in Pontypridd. The Pontypridd Choir meets on a Monday afternoon in the Graigwen Church between 2 and 4pm if anyone is interested. We have 2 members who have already joined the Pontypridd Choir.

October
meeting
- Our speaker for the October meeting will be talking about “Toys through the Ages”. We look forward to seeing you all.
- For our annual link Carol Service we require an item for us to perform on the night such as: Christmas poem, Christmas song, Christmas reading serious/humorous or anything else you think may be suitable. We would like ideas by our next meeting on the 11th October as we have to go back with our idea to the next Link meeting on the 29th October. If anyone has an idea that they would like to put forward before the next meeting you are welcome to contact either myself or Erica.
- It is Glamorgan Federation's 90th anniversary next year and there are various events being organised between November 2012 and December 2013. To finish off the celebrations there will be a Carol Service and a parade of each group's banners. As we don't currently have a banner we are asking members to design a simple logo so that we can choose one that would we could use on stationery and also put on our banner. So, please get your thinking cap on and pens, pencils & crayons and design something simple that depicts Pontypridd by our November meeting.
- There is a Christmas Tree Festival being held at the Orangery, Margam Park on the 5th December, 11.30am. If you would like to visit this event the cost of the ticket is £2.00, there will be festive entertainment with a W.I. Choir and the Cadoxton Belles. The closing date is 16th November 2012, please pay Pat if you wish to attend.
- There is a chance to win a 2 night residential course of your choice at Denman College. Just put £1.00 into an envelope with you name, telephone number and WI on the front and bring it to the October meeting. Erica will take the envelopes to the Autumn Council meeting on the 5th November where the draw will take place.
- We are holding our Christmas Meal at La Trattoria, Pontypridd on Wednesday 12th December in place of our monthly meeting. If you wish to attend we will require a £5.00 deposit payable at our October meeting.
Please
don’t forget our chosen charity
– the Local Food Bank and bring a non perishable food item if you
want to donate. Doesn’t have to be anything expensive – small can
of fruit, long life milk, packet soup, etc.
